Donald Trump is attempting to sue CBS News to the tune of $10 billion on allegations that there was “deceptive doctoring” of Kamala Harris’ “60 Minutes” interview. His outcry continues after the network’s “Face the Nation” used a longer version of an answer Harris gave during her “60 Minutes” discussion.

The former president filed the lawsuit obtained by TheWrap on Thursday, after days of outcry about the news organization doctoring his political opponent’s interview. It states that the “60 Minutes” interview was a form of “news distortion” used to “tip the scales in the favor of the Democratic Party.”

“CBS’ partisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference through malicious, deceptive, and substantial news distortion calculated to confuse, deceive, and mislead the public.”

Trump and his lawyers are seeking $10 billion in damages and a jury trial for CBS News’ supposed deceptive editing of the interview. The suit states these reflect the “ongoing false, misleading, and deceptive acts; the attorneys’ fees and costs associated with this action; and such other relief as the court deems just and proper.”

CBS declined to release the full transcription of the interview to Trump and his lawyers, as well as citing the First Amendment in defense of their reporting. However, they did release a statement explaining how their interviews are edited for air and how this particular answer was edited.

“Same question. Same answer. But a different portion of the response,” the “60 Minutes” statement reads. “When we edit any interview, whether a politician, an athlete, or movie star, we strive to be clear, accurate and on point. The portion of her answer on 60 Minutes was more succinct, which allows time for other subjects in a wide ranging 21-minute-long segment.”

The lawsuit was filed in the notably conservative Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in Texas, despite neither party being based in Texas.

The former president has hounded CBS about the “60 Minutes” interview for most of the month of October.

“A giant Fake News Scam by CBS & 60 Minutes,” Trump said on his Truth Social account. “Her REAL ANSWER WAS CRAZY, OR DUMB, so they actually REPLACED it with another answer in order to save her or, at least, make her look better.”

He continued, “A FAKE NEWS SCAM, which is totally illegal. TAKE AWAY THE CBS LICENSE. Election Interference. She is a Moron, and the Fake News Media wants to hide that fact. An UNPRECEDENTED SCANDAL!!! The Dems got them to do this and should be forced to concede the Election? WOW!”

His tirade didn’t begin and end on his social media accounts. The Republican nominee brought it up again during his chat with Joe Rogan on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast.

“Kamala goes on ’60 Minutes,’ gave an answer that a child wouldn’t give, it was so bad, and ’60 Minutes’ took the answer out and put another answer in,” Trump said.

“They edited it, deceptively,” Rogan reflected back.

“Which didn’t make sense, either, but it was better,” Trump continued. “They took — well, it wasn’t editing, it was fraud. This was not editing.”

A moment later, Trump said, “I think it’s the biggest scandal in broadcast history, what happened to CBS.”

We may not see them on the big screen together again any time soon, but the Avengers did assemble on Thursday afternoon — this time, to endorse Kamala Harris for president.

The footage kicks off with Scarlett Johansson, who played Black Widow in the MCU, jumping on a video call and thanking her fellow Avengers — including Robert Downey Jr., in a rare political endorsement — to discuss what they can do to encourage people to vote this week.

Watch the video below:

The video also included Mark Ruffalo, Danai Gurira, Chris Evans, Don Cheadle, and Paul Bettany, and together, they brainstorm how they can help Harris. Among their ideas? Give her a catchphrase.

Naturally, they start running down the list of their own characters’ catchphrases, including “I can do this all day” and “Boom! You lookin’ for this?” (a niche joke for those who were into “Avengers: Age of Ultron).

“Don’t sit this one out,” Ruffalo wrote in a follow-up post. “It’s the one where we will lose big: Project 2025, women’s reproductive rights, climate change, LGBTQIA+ rights, public education, student debt relief, Affordable Care Act, Social Security, and as of today, life saving vaccines. This s–t is real and it’s going to come for you. Take 3 friends and know, no matter what you are a hero. Always give it all.”

It’s the latest high profile endorsement for the Democratic candidate. Other recent heavy hitters to come out for her include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Leonardo DiCaprio and Sarah Jessica Parker, among others.

Former President Barack Obama said his daughters Malia and Sasha Obama are adamant about not using their famous family lineage as they develop their professional careers.

“[Malia’s] first film went to Sundance and all these fancy film festivals, and she didn’t use Obama on the, as director, in the credits it said Malia Ann. She used her middle name and didn’t put Obama on there,” Obama shared during an appearance on the sports and entertainment podcast “The Pivot.”

At the time, cohost Ryan Clark asked Obama how he encourages his daughters to achieve success on their own without using the Obama family name. Contrary to the implication of the question, Obama said his children avoid receiving any assistance from him or their mother Michelle Obama.

“The challenge for us is letting us give them any help at all. I mean, they, they’re very sensitive about this stuff. They’re very stubborn about it,” Obama said, adding that he’s inquired with Malia about her decision use just her first and middle name for her flick.

“I was all like, ‘You do know they’ll know who you are.’ And she’s all like, ‘You know what, I want them to watch it that first time and not in any way have that association. So I think our daughters go out of their way to not try to leverage that,” Obama explained.

Obama then reflected on the time when he was heavily involved in politics, sharing that he told media to not bother his girls.

“Growing up the press was pretty good — I basically made a deal with the press pool, the White House press Corp, and I said, ‘You can follow me around, you can talk about me, you do whatever you need to do, leave my children alone because they have the right to grow up. They didn’t choose this. Let them grow up,'” Obama said. “And to the credit of the press, they did leave them alone. Now as they’ve gotten older there’s been some paparazzi stuff going on, and it drives them nuts because their attitude is we’re not looking for all that. So they’re grounded.”

We got to see the first glimpse of Malia branching out beyond her last name when she helped pen Donald Glover’s hit Prime Video thriller “Swarm.” She was credited on the show, which was her writing debut, under the name Malia Ann.

Jesse Watters Says His Wife Secretly Voting for Kamala Would Be ‘Same Thing as Having an Affair’ | Video https://www.thewrap.com/jesse-watters-the-five-rant-wife-voting-kamala-cheating/ https://www.thewrap.com/jesse-watters-the-five-rant-wife-voting-kamala-cheating/#respond Thu, 31 Oct 2024 19:32:25 +0000 https://www.thewrap.com/?p=7644055 Watters goes off on a loud election rant with awkward real life implications during Fox News' "The Five" on Thursday

The post Jesse Watters Says His Wife Secretly Voting for Kamala Would Be ‘Same Thing as Having an Affair’ | Video appeared first on TheWrap.

]]>
Jesse Watters, whose first marriage ended in 2018 after he had an affair with his now-wife Emma DiGiovine, declared during an exaggerated rant on Fox News’ “The Five” that if she secretly voted for Kamala Harris it would be “the same thing as having an affair.”

“If I found out, Emma,” Watters said, pausing to look directly into the camera, “was going into the voting booth and pulling the lever for Harris, that’s the same thing as having an affair.”

Watters chuckled at this point, presumably because DiGiovine is a producer on “The Five” and thus had been directly addressed.

“That, to me,” Watters continued before being interrupted by the rest of “The Five” panel breaking out in incredulous laughter.

“Let him finish,” interjected panel guest George “Tyrus” Murdoch.

“…Violates the sanctity of our marriage,” Watters continued.

” Yes,” Murdoch agreed.

“What else is she keeping from me?” Watters went on. “What else has she been lying about?”

“Why would she lie to you?” Jeanine Pirro interrupted. “Have you threatened her? Why would she lie to you?”

“Oh, they want me to tease,” DiGiovine said from offscreen.

“Why would she do that and then vote Harris? Why would she say she was voting Trump, and I caught her, and then she said I lied to you for the last four years?” Watters continued.

“You intimidate her,” Pirro said.

“It’s OVER,” Watters shouted in apparent mock-outrage. “Emma, that would be D-Day.”

Watch the clip below:

Speaking of “D-Day” and violating “the sanctity of marriage,” Watters was married to Noelle Inguagiato from 2009 to 2019, and they have twin daughters. Inguagiato left Watters in October, 2017 after he admitted to cheating on her with DiGiovine. She filed for Divorce the following March.

In a statement at the time, Fox News confirmed the affair, saying in a statement provided to New York Daily News, “Within 24 hours of Jesse Watters voluntarily reporting to the Chief of Human Resources in November 2017 that he was in a consensual relationship with a woman on his staff, management met with both parties and a decision was made for the woman to be transferred to work on another program on the network where she currently remains.”

The divorce was finalized a year later and Watters, who was 40 at the time, married DiGiovine, who was 26, that December.

The circumstances of his current marriage have occasionally produced some awkward moments for Watters, and for Fox News. In 2022 things got particularly awkward on “The Five” after he effectively admitted that had a somewhat not-entirely-honest means of courting DiGiovine, telling his co-hosts he once let the air out of her tires so she would have to ask him for a ride home. To reiterate, she was his employee at the time.

Then in September, 2023, Watters argued against letting workers work remotely with this curious reasoning: “What about office romance? You have no office romance.”

His co-hosts quickly shut him down, with Pirro urging him, “you don’t want to go there,” and Fox News contributor Richard Fowler adding, “That’s the third rail! Stop while you’re ahead.”

And then in January of this year, after Watters criticized Houston-area Republican congressman Dan Crenshaw for several stock trades, Crenshaw responded in part, “he cheated on his wife and then left her with twins while he went off with another Fox producer.”

Jimmy Kimmel had some simple advice for Donald Trump during his monologue on Wednesday: “When you find yourself having to tell people, ‘I’m not Hitler,’ something is wrong.”

Kimmel was referring to a rally where Trump insisted, “I’m not Hitler,” due to the number of former associates who have confirmed his admiration for dictators and for Hitler in particular. Here’s a clip:

But back to Kimmel, who said, “when your wife has to answer questions about her husband being a Hitler, it might be time to reel it in a bit.”

After playing more footage from the rally in question, featuring Trump’s relatives speaking on his behalf, he said, “you know, sending your relatives out to speak on your behalf can be a shaky proposition. Especially when that relative happens to be your son, High Pitch Eric.

Earlier in the monologue, Kimmel commented on the rally Trump hosted in New York last weekend, during which roast comedian Tony Hinchcliffe inferred that Puerto Rico is a “floating island of garbage.”

“While he might try to play it off and distract us, this garbage thing is a serious problem for him. He’s facing a firestorm of anger from the Latino population,” Kimmel said. “Bad Bunny, J-Lo, Ricky Martin have all come out in support of Kamala Harris this week.”

“But instead of apologizing, which is not something he does, he sat down to talk about it with noted racial tolerance advocate Sean Hannity,” Kimmel said before showing a clip.

During the clip, Trump made claims that are wildly exaggerated and made yet another assertion that “no president’s done more” for Puerto Rico than he has.

“He’s got a point, no President in history has thrown more rolls of paper towels at the Puerto Rican people than Donald Trump,” Kimmel declared, referencing the callous way Trump responded to Hurricane Maria in 2017.

]]>
Charlamagne Tha God again criticized CNN’s coverage of Donald Trump during his radio show “The Breakfast Club” Tuesday morning. What’s “strange” he said is that “they always center the wrong conversation.”

The end result is that CNN has “assisted in the normalization of Donald Trump’s fascism,” he argued.

While discussing comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s racist jokes about Puerto Rico, Charlamagne said, “I have no problem, as you know, having conversations with people I don’t agree with. I think conservatives should talk to liberals. Liberals should talk to conservatives. Independents should be talking with liberals and conservatives … We are all humans on this planet trying to figure it out. Let’s have conversations. I have no problem with it, but it has to be a good-faith conversation. Okay? It has to be good-faith discussions.”

What’s happening on CNN is not that, he continued. “The first issue is what they choose to center and how they choose to center it. I was watching CNN yesterday, and I’m not gonna say the anchor’s name, but they were talking about the MAGA rally at the Garden, and they were talking about it like it was just normal.”

“We’re almost 10 years into the Trump era, and they still don’t know how to cover that demon,” he continued. “Or the blatant white supremacy that comes from anyone associated with him, OK? It’s strange. In between talking about the MAGA rally like it was virtually normal, the host was still asking one of the pundits on the panel if Vice President Kamala Harris should do Joe Rogan. It was very strange.”

“But that’s what a lot of these cable news networks do. And I see it a lot more on CNN. They have a problem making the main thing the main thing. They always center the wrong conversation. And by doing that, they have assisted in the normalization of Donald Trump’s fascism.”

The network is also guilty of bringing on “a conservative who’s not there to have a good-faith discussion, and whatever it is the panel is discussing, the conservative will just say something and derail the whole conversation,” he added in reference to Monday night’s racist debacle during CNN NewsNight.

The comments also followed Charlamagne’s own CNN interview with Anderson Cooper last week. “I feel like I heard more on this network about ‘Is Kamala Harris Black’ than I do about, you know, Donald Trump being a fascist,” he told the anchor Thursday.

Cooper appeared taken aback by the allegation. “Honestly, that’s bulls–t,” he answered. “To say we’re sitting around discussing ‘Is Kamala Harris Black’ —” he added before Charlamagne interjected, “That’s bulls–t. For you to say that y’all don’t have these conversations —”

The pair began to speak over one another before Cooper raised his voice and said, “I don’t think anyone, any anchor on this network, has been going around saying, ‘Is she Black?’ … I’m sure we have had, you know, nutty people, or people who have strongly held beliefs, who I may disagree with, who somewhere on some panel have said something.”

Charlamagne remained unconvinced. “I think no network has honest conversations about Trump,” he said. “You haven’t had — nobody’s had honest conversations about about Donald Trump Since 2016.”

“I saw last night they were talking about, you know, the double standard that exists between Donald Trump and the Vice President, but it’s always a double standard with Trump, whether it’s with Hillary, whether it’s, you know, against Biden now with Kamala, we talk about him being a threat to democracy, but we don’t treat him like one,” Charlamagne also said.

Debra Messing, David Mamet and Diane Warren are among the more than 1000 literary and entertainment industry figures to sign an open letter released by the non-profit entertainment industry organization Creative Community for Peace (CCFP) to oppose the boycott of Israeli publishing houses and Jewish authors Wednesday.

Signatories also include “Jack Reacher” creator Lee Child, authors Bernard Henri-Lévy, Harlan Coben, Howard Jacobson, Herta Müller and Howard Jacobson as well as Mayim Bialik, Julianna Margulies, Scooter Braun, Gene Simmons, and Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.

“Art is the antithesis to a political party. It is a meeting place not an echo chamber,” Jacobson said in a statement. “Art explores, discovers, differs, questions and surprises. Precisely where a door should be forever open, the boycotters slam it closed.”

The letter was written in response to “calls to boycott Israeli literary institutions follow a year filled with efforts to demonize and ostracize Jewish authors across the globe,” CCFP explained. “In the last year, bookstore appearances have been canceled based on authors’ identities and book readings have been shut down. Activists have publicized lists of ‘Zionist’ authors to harass and just last week, ads for a book with ‘Israel’ in the title were rejected.”

The letter reads in full:

“We, the undersigned writers, authors, and entertainment industry professionals reject the calls to boycott Israeli and Jewish writers, publishers, authors, book festivals and literary agencies, along with those who support, work with, or platform them.”

“We continue to be shocked and disappointed to see members of the literary community harass and ostracize their colleagues because they don’t share a one-sided narrative in response to the greatest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.”

“Israel is fighting existential wars against Hamas and Hezbollah, both US, UK, and European Union designated terrorist groups.”

“The exclusion of anyone who doesn’t unilaterally condemn Israel is an inversion of morality and an obfuscation of reality.”

“History is full of examples of self-righteous sects, movements and cults who have used short-lived moments of power to enforce their vision of purity, to persecute, exclude, boycott and intimidate those with whom they disagreed, who made lists of people with ‘bad’ views, who burned ‘sinful’ books (and sometimes ‘sinful’ people).”

“Over the past year, planned bookstore appearances by Jewish authors have been canceled, ads for books about Israel have been rejected, book readings have been shut down, literary groups have been targeted, and activists have publicized lists of ‘Zionist’ authors to harass.”

“The instincts and motivations behind cultural boycotts, in practice and throughout history, are directly in opposition to the liberal values most writers hold sacred.”

“Boycotts against authors and those who work with them is illiberal and dangerous.”

“In fact, we believe that writers, authors, and books — along with the festivals that showcase them — bring people together, transcend boundaries, broaden awareness, open dialogue, and can affect positive change.”

“We believe that anyone who works to subvert this spirit merely adds yet another roadblock to freedom, justice, equality, and peace that we all desperately desire.”

“Regardless of one’s views on the current conflict, boycotts of creatives and creative institutions simply create more divisiveness and foment further hatred.”

“We call on our friends and colleagues worldwide to join us in expressing their support for Israeli and Jewish publishers, authors, and all book festivals, publishers, and literary agencies that refuse to capitulate to censorship based on identity or litmus tests.”

]]>
While it’s possible Donald Trump will “win this election outright in six days” said Chris Hayes Wednesday night, “he’s been telegraphing for four years the plan – the definite plan — is to cheat and sow doubt about the outcome in advance.”

The plan already has backing from Steve Bannon, one of Trump’s chief supporters, who was released from prison Tuesday and spent his first free hours insisting “Trump’s main mistake on election night in 2020 was that he took too long to falsely declare victory, a mistake he said Trump shouldn’t make again this year.”

“This is all clear as day, right?” Hayes asked. “We’re all seeing this. They’re doing it on camera, and their microphones are not like running around in the dark. They are running the same “stop the steal” playbook as they did four years ago when they lost an election by four and a half points.”

Hayes pointed out that a reporter who attended Trump’s rally in North Carolina asked the candidate, who was seated behind the wheel of a garbage truck, if he could “imagine any circumstances under which you would be defeated but not say the election was stolen.” Trump was quick to answer, “If it was a corrupt election it could happen.”

When asked if he believes he will declare victory the night of the election, Trump replied, “I hope that we’re going to declare a victory every day and spend all that money on machines. It’s like, very sad when you get machines. You pay all that money and they talk about three days later. I think we’re going to have a big enough victory to maybe have it that way.”

The answers were “basically the same s–t,” Hayes explained. “This time, the Republican central message is getting an enormous signal boost, not just from Fox, of course, where it is, but from the social media platform X and its owner, Elon Musk, the Trump-loving, reactionary billionaire, the world’s biggest broker of disinformation.”

You can watch the clip from Chris Hayes in the video above.

Joe Rogan says he tried to warn Tony Hinchcliffe not to tell his Puerto Rico joke onstage anymore prior to this past weekend’s Madison Square Garden rally.

While talking on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” the podcast host explained how he told his fellow comedian in the past that his joke about calling Puerto Rico “a floating island of garbage” would be the one “that’s gonna get you stabbed.” Hinchcliffe – an insult comic and host of the “Kill Tony” podcast – ultimately decided to re-tell the joke at Donald Trump’s campaign stop over the weekend anyway. It did not go over well.

“I’ve gotta tell you, that joke kills at comedy clubs. I don’t like the joke, [but] it kills,” Rogan said on Wednesday. “It’s just like, if you’re Puerto Rican and you hear that in the audience, you’re like [groans]. But it’s a funny joke. The joke does well. But I said to him, I go, ‘Dude, that’s the one that’s gonna get you stabbed.’ And he used to talk about it on stage, saying, ‘Joe Rogan always says that’s the one that’s gonna get me stabbed.’”

Indeed, the joke backfired. It pushed a number of Puerto Rican artists like Jennifer Lopez and Bad Bunny to publicly back Kamala Harris. Worse for Trump, singer Nicky Jam even retracted his endorsement of the former president because of Hinchcliffe’s joke.

“The reason I supported Donald Trump is because I believed it was best for the United States economy, where a lot of Latinos live … a lot of immigrants that are suffering over the state of the economy,” Jam said Wednesday, translated from Spanish using Google Translate. “With him being a businessman, I felt it was the right move.”

He went on to say that he never expected a comedian to then trash Puerto Rico weeks later, adding, “That’s why I’m renouncing my support for Donald Trump and stepping away from political conversation. Puerto Rico deserves respect.”

Rogan added on the podcast that political rallies aren’t places where comedy thrives. Had he known Hinchcliffe’s plan, he would have said “don’t you f–king dare do that joke.” The former “Fear Factor” star does, however, think the comedian will weather the storm.

“I think it’ll blow over, just like all these things do,” Rogan said. “There’s people that are always going to hate someone like Tony, and it’s going to make other people love him more. It’s just like, he’s going through it right now. He’s going through the storm.”

Singer Nicky Jam has retracted his endorsement of Donald Trump in response to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe joking about Puerto Rico at the presidential hopeful’s recent rally.

The “Insomnio” artist shared an Instagram video on Wednesday announcing his change of heart, just one month after publicly voicing his support of Trump.

“The reason I supported Donald Trump is because I believed it was best for the United States economy, where a lot of Latinos live … a lot of immigrants that are suffering over the state of the economy,” Jam said, translated from Spanish using Google Translate. “With him being a businessman, I felt it was the right move.”

He went on to say that he never expected a comedian to then trash Puerto Rico weeks later, adding, “That’s why I’m renouncing my support for Donald Trump and stepping away from political conversation. Puerto Rico deserves respect.”

Jam was born in Massachusetts and moved to Puerto Rico with his family at age 10. On Sept. 13, the recording artist endorsed Trump at a campaign rally in Las Vegas.

Over the weekend, Hinchcliffe made multiple racist jokes against numerous minority groups while speaking in support of the Republican presidential nominee at another campaign stop.

“There’s a lot going on. Like, I don’t know if you guys know this, but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. Yeah, I think it’s called Puerto Rico,” Hinchcliffe said at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Trump subsequently distanced himself from the comedian.

The 2024 presidential election is now just six days away.
