Yemen Association for Consumer Protection (YACP) organizes a ceremony on the occasion of Consumer World Day that will be on 15 March 2017. The ceremony will be accompanied by a workshop entitled “Consumer Rights in Digital Economy”.
The workshop, that will be held on Monday 20 March 2017 in Sana`a, discusses a number of research papers such us national policies for Protection of Internet, Digital Economy or Electronic Commerce`s users data. It also discusses a research paper entitled ‘’Electronic Crimes in Yemen Law’’ and Consumer Digital Rights. The Yemen Association for Consumer Protection (YACP) issued a release on the occasion of Consumer World Day. For this occasion, it chose this slogan ‘’Building a Digital World Trusted by Consumers’’
Yemen Association for Consumer Protection (YACP) confirms that the current circumstances should not justify the negligence of concerned authorities to protect consumers and users of internet and provide them with necessary requirements of Digital Economy as an indicator of Communication and IT revolution.
It called for setting up executive policies to develop Information Systems, networks and security standards in order to protect internets user and information consumer. It also called to adopt laws and frameworks to carry out these development and adopting modern techniques in order to get access easily and quickly.
Yemen Association for Consumer Protection (YACP) expressed its concerns about the number of internet users who are not exceeding 25 % of population and securing their data. It emphasized on the urgent need to build up an integrated national strategy to secure information.
It declared sorrow for public negligence to play their roles in expanding the benefit of merits it created for the Yemeni consumer in the field of digital technology that cannot be accessed but by 25 % of Yemenis. This percentage is very low under all standards and the deterioration of level of internet quality. ‘
’The Yemen Association for Consumer Protection (YACP) is concerned that authorities uses many obstacles for internet such as blockage policy and information insecurity due to the absence of law bases and integrated policies that protect internet users and maintain their rights’’, statement added. Yemen Association for Consumer Protection (YACP) warns about the dangers that get closer to the Yemeni consumer as long as parties to conflict are not interested in the dimension of suffering and disaster of war and siege. It calls all parties to conflict, UN and International Community to stop war and raise siege imposed on the country urgently as the life of 26 million is under a disaster after two years of war. The Yemen Association for Consumer Protection (YACP) is concerned about the increasing number of operations led by aggression and fighting in the Western Coast that influences aviation in Hodeida port that receives more than 75 % of country imports and needs of food, fuel, humanitarian assistances. It also warns about the results of the bad humanitarian situation and danger of starvation that were raised by UN General Secretary Assistance for humanitarian affairs. Yemen Association for Consumer Protection (YACP) warns about the phenomenon customs duplication on commodities and food as there are frequent complaints by the private sector in Sana`a about these customs in Aden port and other land inlets. In this regard, the Yemen Association for Consumer Protection (YACP) calls to find out about an immediate solution for this problem caused by parties to conflict in order to get revenues regardless of consumer who is finally the victims of their conflict. These customs will be added to the prices of imported commodities. The Yemen Association for Consumer Protection (YACP) listed the dangers and risks that are getting closer to the Yemeni consumer in term of life circumstances that take after life in prison in which Yemenis are waiting for death at any moment for more than a reason in addition to war and conflict. The Yemen Association for Consumer Protection (YACP) criticizes the negligence of parties to conflict for the protection of Yemeni consumer and for the calls raised by international, regional and local community to stop war that reflects on Yemeni consumer in non-humanitarian forms such as starvation, price rise of food and insecurity, creating of black markets and so on. It recalls, in the name of humanity, the international actors and organizations to stress on the parties to conflict to stop war and raise siege as well as getting back to negotiation table, as there is no time for Yemeni people to stay alive. The Yemen Association for Consumer Protection (YACP) renews its commitments to carry out its roles and responsibilities towards Yemeni Consumer calling all concerned parties to conflict to cooperate with the Yemen Association for Consumer Protection (YACP) and facilitate its activities to keep consumers aware of their rights. It also calls them to help it warning the consumers of the risks of spread of bad commodities and to interact with its events and releases.
